For helpful how to videos, be sure to visit http://www.Lowes.com/Videos. If you can't find the perfect distressed wood furniture piece, don't worry. You can make it yourself with this easy how to guide. We'll walk you through three different ways to distress wood to get that great antique look you want.

White, weathered, and worn are hallmarks of the vintage look. Get started by giving a piece of unfinished wood furniture a coat of white paint. To get that worn and aged feel, simply sand away some of the paint. Hit the edges and the curves, anywhere that wear and tear would naturally occur. The result is a piece that looks like it's been handed down through the generations.

Another way to get a great aged look is by using layers of paint. You want the piece to look as though it's been painted and painted and painted again. Choose at least two colors, more if you're a little more daring. Again, sand away some of the topcoat. You can see the undercoat color starting to peek through, giving you that great layered look.

The last look comes from turning something new into something old, adding the wear and tear yourself. Using a hammer, a screwdriver, nails, chains, all of those will give you some dents, dings, and the character that comes with age. You want this to be really random -- don't try to create patterns with the tools. To finish off this look, use a mix of stains to give your finish some contrast and depth for that great antiqued effect.
