HOW A BROKEN SYSTEM MAY HAVE CAUSED 2 NOTORIOUS INCIDENTS IN OKLAHOMA'S LAW ENFORCEMENT HISTORY
Pearl Pearson accidentally backed into a car at a red light. Unbeknownst to him it was called in as a hit and run. When OHP tried giving Mr. Pearson directives he couldnt hear them nor communicate that to them, as Pearl Pearson is deaf. When he reached down to get his sign that explains this he was punched in the face. Which started a 5 minute beating. One where Mr. Pearson was covering up from, he was confused, scared and completly operating off instinct. The officers took this as noncompliance and resisting arrest. Instead of what it really was, a man's instinct to survive. Even after the dust settled, and it was obvious that Mr. Pearson's impairment was the problem. The District Attorney who was retired law enforcement still choose to charge Pearl Pearson with resisting arrest. The case was ultimately thrown out, and Mr. Pearson was awarded over 200k from several Oklahoma Government agencies and business's. Magdiel Sanchez was at home when the Police came looking for a man involved in a hit and run. Mr. Sanchez also deaf and mute who neighbors say "sometimes communicates with a stick" was shot in his front yard. There where 2 officers on the scene one deployed a taser one a gun, both at the sametime. Per department policy the non lethal weapon is to be used and the lethal weapon only as backup. Again the retired law enforcement officer turned District Attorney found no wrong doing on the Sgt.'s behalf, who shot Mr. Sanchez. What about the way we approach policing in America caused these incidents? Do officers arrive at every call, bent on officer safefy to the detriment of those they encounter. Are we trading in quality for quantity when we hire law enforcement in the United States? Comment below.
