Prosecutors charged Ramsey County sheriff's correctional officer Travis Vandewiele with misdemeanor assault involving a man being booked into the jail.

Terrell Johnson, on April 13, 2016. Vandewiele pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and the assault charge was dismissed.

Officers told deputies that Johnson had been sprayed with a chemical agent and would
likely spit at them, and a "spit hood" was put over Johnson's mouth, according to the criminal complaint against Vandewiele.

Job Losses, Bankruptcies And Store Closings Are All Soaring As The US Economic Collapse Rolls On

The U.S. economy is facing an unending nightmare. All over the country, economic activity is dramatically slowing down as another recession begins. Hundreds of thousands of businesses are feeling the compounding effects of two years of persistent supply chain disruptions, shutdowns, labor shortages, and soaring inflation. That’s why many of them are starting to announce massive waves of layoffs and store closings in a repeat of scenes last seen during the peak of the pandemic in 2020. At the same time, bankruptcy rates are spiking again, and industry CEOs are warning that this is just the beginning.
We were actually supposed to be witnessing some sort of improvement right now. But instead, companies are announcing mass lay-offs, store closures, and filing for bankruptcy as they face the cumulative effects of hot inflation, supply chain imbalances, and dropping sales. It’s quite hard to believe that the numbers have gotten sob ad in such a short span. According to the Washington Post, we’re still seeing businesses fail at a rate that is absolutely staggering. Over the past two years, approximately 175,000 businesses have permanently closed their doors all across the country. In 2020, after the health crisis broke out, nearly 280 companies declared bankruptcy, according to Bloomberg. In the first half of 2020, at least 110 major companies filed for bankruptcy in America. Now, two years later, the U.S. has seen 221 bankruptcy filings from January to July, S&P Global data shows. The pace at which things are running off the tracks is quite shocking, and more gloomy announcements just keep coming.
Several iconic retailers, even some of the most established ones such as Walmart are having to close locations around the U.S. as consumers’ budgets get squeezed by soaring prices. Grocery stores have not been spared by the challenges across the retail space. Last month, Whole Foods announced the closure of dozens of stores. Shortly after that, two dozens of Sprouts Farmers Market locations were permanently shut down. Starbucks, which closed eye-popping 424 US company-operated stores during its most recent fiscal year is prepared to close even more branches as economic conditions deteriorate. "We are beginning to close stores," CEO Howard Schultz said in a video posted to Twitter last week. "This is just the beginning. There are going to be many more," he stressed.
According to Toys ‘R’ Us CEO, the carnage is far from over. During a recent interview with FoxNews, the company’s chief executive officer Gerald Storch warned that in the fall "we’re going to see record bankruptcies in retail". He emphasized that thousands of mom-and-pop stores will experience a "decimation" of mom-and-pop stores on Main Street.
Recent reports continue to trickle out about the growing number of job cuts across the nation. So far this summer, many major U.S. companies have laid off thousands of employees as executives fear more volatility in financial markets and worsening economic fundamentals. Amongst them, Microsoft reportedly laid off 200 employees in July, less than a month after the California tech giant announced it would cut 2,000 workers, Business Insider reported, The pessimism is rapidly spreading across Silicon Valley. This month, website design company Wix.com made its second round of layoffs of the year, cutting hundreds of employees as company President and COO Nir Zohar noted that “the world is experiencing an economic crisis and we have seen U.S. GDP fall without growth.”
When taking all the sectors of the industry together, there have already been hundreds of thousands of layoffs this year and many more are coming in the months ahead. What we’ve seen so far is just a hint of what is going to happen to this country once we’re into a full-blown recession and dealing with skyrocketing consumer prices and a collapsing job market. In essence, this is exactly what an economic collapse looks like, and unfortunately, it is just getting started.

Brace For Electricity Shortages That Will Scare The Living Daylights Out Of You

America’s energy crisis is getting worse by the day, and U.S. consumers are about to face a triple threat: simultaneous shortages of electricity, oil, and gas. The recent closure of key power plants is leaving the country without enough generation capacity ahead of the summer. At this point, rolling blackouts are already a certain fate. On top of that, national reserves of oil and gas have hit dangerously low levels, and this means Americans are not only going to pay a heavy price but also scramble to get adequate supplies of energy in the coming weeks.
On the very same day that the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) released a report warning the U.S. electric grid doesn’t have enough generation capacity and that blackouts are expected to occur all across the country this summer, an important clean energy power plant was shut down in Michigan. The Palisades Power Plant, an 811-megawatt nuclear facility was deactivated due to a mechanical problem, leaving the Midwest without critical energy supplies and at risk of “energy emergencies during peak summer conditions,” according to NERC.
Palisades was located very close to the area served by the Mid-continent Independent System Operator (MISO), the region that NERC identified as being particularly short on energy supplies. NERC noted the MISO region has 3,200 megawatts less generation capacity this summer than it did last year. In contrast, consumer demand is expected to increase by a considerable margin over the next few weeks, which led NERC to warn that “extreme temperatures, higher generation outages, or low wind conditions” will mean that the Midwest is highly susceptible to “load-shedding to maintain system reliability” — the industry’s preferred term to describe rolling blackouts.
At the moment, around 25 percent of the country’s nuclear plants are at risk of shutting down due to economic reasons, according to the DOE. Palisades was just the first one to go on a long list of planned closures. Since 2013, 12 commercial reactors have been closed — including in New York, Massachusetts, Nebraska, and Iowa — and none have opened. At least seven more have announced closure plans in the next three years, including Diablo Canyon, the last remaining nuclear power plant in California.
The closure of such plants is also going to result in higher electricity costs because generators are forced to burn more natural gas to produce more power to meet the demand, and right now gas prices are absolutely soaring. According to CNBC’s Kelly Evans the energy crisis will keep getting worse: “It’s hard to see how energy prices get back to “normal” anytime soon, and the risk of bigger price spikes and worse supply problems looms very large this summer,” Evans noted.
But it’s not only the coming power shortages that will impact consumers this summer. Fatih Birol the head of the International Energy Agency has warned that the energy crisis now underway will be far more “severe and longer-lasting than the oil price shocks of the 1970s,” since it's applying pressure on three separate fronts. "Back then it was just about oil," he said. "Now we have an oil crisis, a gas crisis and an electricity crisis simultaneously."
In short, the closure of key power plants will increase carbon emissions, reduce energy affordability, and hurt the resilience and reliability of America’s electric grid. And the lack of enough fuel reserves may result in serious disruptions that may paralyze the U.S. economy. America is facing the worst energy crisis in the modern era, and the government is whistling past the graveyard. Wise leaders would be doing everything possible to expand energy capacity, ensure reserves, and strengthen infrastructure. Alas, we do not have wise leaders. What we will have instead is soaring energy bills, absurd prices at the pump, broken supply chains, and devastating shortages in every corner of the nation.

Panic Sweeps Across China As Bank Runs Intensify And Cash Shortage Leaves Millions With No Money

Bank runs continue to spark immense chaos all across China – and this time, things are getting heated. Since last week, thousands of people took the streets of major Chinese cities to ask banks to unfreeze their deposit accounts only to be dispersed by heavy-handed security personnel and remain at risk of losing all of their savings. Four big Chinese banks have frozen millions of dollars worth of deposits in April, telling customers they were upgrading their internal systems. But by now, the population has lost their trust in the institutions and the government. According to economists and experts, the country’s huge $54 trillion financial system, which is more than double the size of assets across U.S. commercial banks, is collapsing. China is on the precipice of a serious debt crisis, and the implosion of the nation’s real estate market and the ongoing bank runs are only symptoms of a much bigger problem.
Civil disorder is sweeping across China as infuriated citizens demand four major rural-based banks to unblock their assets after months of having their accounts frozen with no reasonable explanation. Over the weekend, a large crowd of angry customers gathered in the streets of major Chinese cities to express their growing frustration, but many ended up injured or taken away by local authorities.
Local media outlets estimate that the total amount of frozen deposit across the various banks could be worth up to $1.5 billion. For its part, the Chinese government said it is conducting a thorough investigation in the bank’s balance sheets.
For several months, the institutions have only been serving a limited number of customers per day, with some of them limiting how much each client can withdraw – oftentimes, no more than 1,000 yuan (or about $149). Meanwhile, others closed their branches altogether. Citizens say that even ATMs are empty, which is making it impossible for many of them to pay their monthly bills.
Reuters reported that the peaceful demonstration was interrupted by local authorities who announced from a vehicle with a megaphone that the gathering was an illegal assembly and demonstrators would be detained and fined if they didn’t leave. Some of the officials were out of their uniforms and wearing white T-shirts to blend in with the crowd and start dismantling the protest from within.
A number of experts highlighted in a recent interview with the Daily Caller News Foundation that the recent bank runs and the country’s collapsing real estate market are merely symptoms of a much more serious issue. China’s unacknowledged debt crisis is actually causing cash shortages and ensuing bank runs, noted Gordon G. Chang, author of “The Coming Collapse of China”.
The country’s real estate market crash has dramatically contributed to its impending debt crisis, “which is the ultimate cause of the nation’s widespread bank runs,” pointed out Jennifer Zeng, a human rights activist and the host of the YouTube show “Inconvenient Truths”. “The collapse of the real estate market will bring double problems for the banks. Both the developers and home buyers will have problems paying back the loans or mortgages. That’s why the banks are having problems with their funds,” Zeng emphasized.
If things in America start to unfold in the same way that’s happening in China, soon we could be the ones experiencing a cash shortage and witnessing widespread bank runs. At the same time, the whole world could be in danger of facing another financial catastrophe as both of the globe’s leading economies collapse into chaos. Needless to say, we've been warned time and time again that taking on more and more debt was a slippery slope. The consequences are clear. A reckoning has begun, and if I were you, I would start figuring out ways to take my assets out of the system while it's still possible.

America’s Summer Exodus: Thousands Flee The Cities Every Day Because They Don’t Feel Safe

A sudden mass exodus away from our major cities has become the greatest migration event in modern American history. Millions are moving to smaller, suburban communities despite soaring housing prices simply because they don’t feel safe in our core urban areas anymore. The relocating patterns are making home prices crash in some markets while others are seeing housing costs reach absolutely insane levels. The trend, however, highlights that the wealthy are snatching the most desirable properties, consequently pushing the price of otherwise affordable homes to skyrocket, and leaving middle-class families priced out of most markets while working-class families are having to live in poverty-stricken regions.
We used to have some of the most beautiful cities in the world, and we still do, but for many, the beauty doesn’t compensate for the collapsing infrastructure, rising rates of offenses, social decay, and the slowdown of local economies. In fact, historian Victor Davis Hanson is using the word “apocalyptic” to describe some of them. According to a recent article published by the New York Times, hundreds of thousands of people have already left the Big Apple. After losing so many residents, some were expecting that the mass exodus would be slowing down, but that does not appear to be happening.
In fact, new tax data shows that over the past couple of years the City has faced a steep population loss. Approximately 500,000 people fled New York - 330,000 of them in 2020 alone, in an exodus described by officials as a once-in-a-century shock to the city’s population. In other words, 8.5% of the city’s residents have moved away looking for better living conditions. Of course, all of those people need to have somewhere to go, and the most popular destinations have been Florida, Arizona, Texas, and Tennessee, a U-Haul survey found. As a result, those places have actually seen some of the highest housing prices in the entire nation.
Zillow economist Nicole Bachaud argues that the relocation of affluent Americans to upper-middle-class neighborhoods is pricing out middle-class families as the competition for a shrinking pool of available homes oftentimes leads to bidding wars. Right now, we have very few homes and a lot of people trying to buy them, she said. Nationally, only 49% of American families living in metropolitan areas can say that their neighborhood income level is within 25% of the regional median. A generation ago, 62% of families lived in these middle-income neighborhoods.
This trend highlights that wealthy families can see that things in the U.S. are about to take an apocalyptic turn and that the big cities will not be a safe place when the next economic recession hits, and rioting, looting, civil unrest, and the rate of delinquencies all start spiraling out of control. The top 1% plans to ride out the coming American apocalypse in style while the world above them is literally going insane. Sadly, a big share of the general population continues to be completely oblivious to what is about to happen to them, and so the events that are coming will close upon them suddenly like a trap and there will be no escape. Meanwhile, countless other Americans also seem to be deeply alarmed about the near future, because we have never seen a mass exodus of this magnitude in modern American history.

Young Americans are getting extremely angry and frustrated with the current economic conditions. Previous generations promised them that if they worked hard, made good choices, stayed in line, and got good grades, they would be able to live the "American Dream". Millennials and Gen Zs were told not to worry about accumulating massive levels of student loan debt because there would be good jobs waiting for them at the end of the rainbow once they graduated. Well, that turned out to be a lie. Right now, nearly half of them are living paycheck to paycheck and having trouble covering basic expenses. In fact, today we have the highest share of adults living with their parents since the Great Depression, and younger generations will continue to fall behind financially because they can't afford to buy a home and start building wealth on their own.
Some economists argue that the young are part of an entitled generation that is flat broke because they are lazy and irresponsible, but that is far from the truth. Today, they work much longer hours and earn significantly less than previous generations when adjusting to inflation.
Young Americans have tried to do everything right and are still struggling to get by. Many of them end up blaming themselves. Many of them think that they are not talented enough or that they didn’t work hard enough or that they don’t have the right connections. But the reality is that decades of inflationary policies are starting to catch up with us in a major way, and they just happen to be caught in the crossfire. Their future looks quite gloomy, and as more of them start realizing that the system is broken, they are likely to become angrier and angrier.
With so many financial setbacks, it’s no wonder why roughly half, or about 45%, of young Americans agree that they feel like they will never have the things they want in life because of their money situation. Among younger generations, financial health remains persistently below the national average, Morning Consult’s research exposed. Millennials’ average financial well-being score —developed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to track financial security and freedom of choice across different population segments over time— stands at 47.05 compared to 50.81 out of 100 for the average American. Even though it may not look like a dramatic difference, that’s quite a significant gap when you consider that a 1-point gain in a consumer’s month-over-month financial well-being score basically amounts to about a $15,000 boost in household earnings, or a 20-point credit score improvement.
When we break U.S. adults down by age, we can see that our long-term economic decline has hit the young the hardest by far. And yet somehow we expect them to bear the burden of providing Medicare, Social Security, and other social welfare benefits to the rest of the population as they get older. No wonder this group is feeling so helpless about their future. Shipping Crisis Turns Into A Nightmare As Disruptions Aggravate Container Shortage

The supply chain crisis is entering a very critical phase right now. U.S. ports are already facing record levels of congestion, but labor issues at railroads are threatening to aggravate the situation and create a nationwide logjam of containers, resulting in extensive shipping delays, exacerbating shortages, and putting U.S. businesses on edge as they confront a growing number of disruptions, soaring inflation, expensive freight prices, and a slowing economy. Industry executives are bracing for "unprecedented chaos" during this shipping season given that 40 billion dollars worth of goods are currently stuck offshore and the backlog of containerships outside both coasts is already nearing all-time highs.
U.S. ports have been overwhelmed by an uninterrupted flow of imports for over two years now. Every time conditions finally improve, new disruptions emerge and the system is thrown into disarray again. This time, a labor impasse is threatening to stop U.S. railroads and halt the delivery of essential goods that are supposed to power up industries all across the country. A new report released by FreightWaves exposed that a massive number of rail workers have quit their jobs and over a hundred thousand of them may start a strike as soon as next week.
Union Pacific is scrambling to find railroad crews after years of slashing headcounts. In the first quarter of this year, the $22 billion railroader had 12,000 fewer workers than it had just a couple of years ago. This labor crunch isn’t unique to Union Pacific. Railways all across America are in an extremely chaotic state as companies struggle to find employees. That’s creating worse port congestion than what was seen in 2021 when the rail sector recorded the biggest traffic in history. And now a strike of 115,000 rail workers could create “unprecedented chaos” this peak shipping season given that a growing backlog of containers is already causing major delays.
For that reason, the ongoing rail congestion is leaving many industry executives and lawmakers furious. The coal industry is blaming rail for the “meltdown” in service capacity and grain shippers revealed they had to spend $100 million more in shipping costs to get their product moved amid poor rail service. Meanwhile, authorities in the Port of Los Angeles are saying that railroaders could cause a “nationwide logjam” due to the massive number of unmoved containers sitting around. While the impasse persists, conditions at U.S. ports are deteriorating fairly rapidly. The pile-up of empty containers waiting on Southern California terminal yards is rapidly reapproaching its peak. At this moment, tens of billions of dollars in trade are either landlocked or anchored at sea as congestion continues to build at the ports. MarineTraffic data also shows that the estimated value of cargo waiting offshore exceeds $40 billion.
With shipping cost pressures and other threats looming, recovery is not expected in the near future, and millions of U.S. businesses are on edge with this situation. A new survey of more than 100 U.S. supply chain executives from Carl Marks advisors found that 75% companies faced significant revenue losses over the past year due to supply chain disruptions. Ocean shipping was by far the leading broken transportation and logistics link, at 68%. Moreover, 36% of business leaders said they are “very concerned” about a dramatic economic slowdown over the next 12 months as a result of rising interest rates, high inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty, and a resultant pull-back in consumer confidence.
A lot of people thought that these bottlenecks would be proven temporary, but since the system first collapsed in 2020, the situation has only gone from worse to catastrophic. Unfortunately, a “return to normal” is simply not in the cards anymore, and as problems pile on top of each other, the supply chain chaos will only grow bigger with each passing day.

If you still haven’t noticed how the foundations of America have been steadily crumbling over the past few decades, then you’re not paying attention. No wonder why divorce rates are rising everywhere in the country. At this point, our population can't agree on right and wrong anymore. Lifeway Research exposed that more than 6 in 10 of those older than 45 say right and wrong do not change. For those 35 and younger, fewer than 4 in 10 make that claim. "That’s a huge shift between generations," notes Scott McConnell, executive director of Lifeway Research. "Older Americans grew up at a time when ideas about morality were more stable," he argues. "That’s no longer true for younger Americans. We are shifting very fast from a world where right and wrong didn’t change to a world where right and wrong are relative,” McConnell said. “We are not all on the same page when it comes to morality. And we haven’t reckoned with what that means.”
Meanwhile, Democracy is at risk in America. This year, the International IDEA thinktank has added the United States to its annual list of “backsliding” democracies for the first time, pointing to a “visible deterioration” it said began in 2019. The report says the trend towards democratic erosion has “become more acute and worrying” since the start of the health crisis. The organization’s secretary general, Kevin Casas-Zamora, underlined that “the visible deterioration of democracy in the United States, as seen in the increasing political disputes, the efforts to suppress free speech, and the runaway polarization are some of the most concerning developments in recent years”.

Corruption is also a rampant issue in our society. Wikipedia has chronologically organized a list of all political scandals that ever occurred in America. As you scroll down toward the more recent administrations, you can’t help but notice how the number gets larger and larger — clearly indicating a growing trend in corruption. Now, corporate greed is the new norm. Pew Research data also shows that since 1978, CEO pay has risen by over 940%. On the other hand, average worker salaries have only increased 12% during the same period. No wonder why most people in America are pessimistic about the country's long-term future. A Pew Research Center survey showed that most Americans think the United States will be struggling with skyrocketing levels of debt, a wider gap between the rich and the poor, and a workforce threatened by automation over the next 20 years. On top of that, 66% of respondents believe "the economy will be weaker, health care will be less affordable, the condition of the environment will be worse and older Americans will have a harder time making ends meet than they do now." We can ignore all the symptoms we want, but the end result is still coming. Our nation is falling apart right before our eyes, and if we stay on this road, there is only one result that will be possible. We Are About To Experience A Shocking Housing Crash The Likes Of Which America Has Never Seen Before

We’re about to witness an absolutely shocking housing crash that's unlike anything we have ever seen before. Over the past couple of years, home prices jumped by nearly 40 percent in the United States. Now, mortgage rates are rising at a pace that is truly breathtaking, and they’re likely to go even higher in the coming months as the Federal Reserve continues to fight a relentless battle against inflation. Higher mortgage rates translate into higher mortgage payments for potential homebuyers, which means that millions of Americans are being completely priced out of the marketplace. For them to be able to come back into this environment, home prices need to cool off, and that’s already happening in some major markets across the country. Once again, another massive housing market bubble is coming to a burst, and at this point, it’s only a matter of gravity - what goes up must eventually come down, and we have just entered the “down” side of that equation.
Prospective home buyers are facing the worst buying conditions in over a decade. A historic housing bubble was already being formed as we headed into 2020, and over the past two years, we have seen another housing bubble develop on top of the previous housing bubble. A study conducted by Moody’s Analytics which analyzed whether economic fundamentals, including local income levels, could support local home prices found out that, on a national level, U.S. home prices are on average overvalued by 24.7%. In other words, U.S. home prices are 24.7% higher than they would historically trade at given current income levels. On the flip side, this also means that if the Federal Reserve continues to raise interest rates throughout 2023, we are likely to see a carnage that may rival the 2008 housing disaster. In short, prices can come down by almost 25 percent in some areas, while others, that have experienced much sharper price increases are at risk of witnessing an even steeper decline.
Economist and financial analyst Peter Schiff highlighted in a recent article that the last time that average 30-year mortgage rates crossed the 6 percent threshold was just before the last housing crash of 2008. Until mid-April, mortgage rates were in the 4% to 5% range. Just one month ago, rates were 5.49%, he notes. Likewise, Wolf Richter calls the spiking mortgage rates along with the 40 percent increase in home prices over the last two years “a toxic mix”.
At the same time, home builders are also facing the enormous implications of this slowdown. "Production bottlenecks, rising home building costs and high inflation are causing many builders to halt construction because the cost of land, construction, and financing exceeds the market value of the home," NAHB Chairman Jerry Konter, a home builder and developer, said in a statement.
The day of reckoning we have been repeatedly warned that was coming is already upon us, and from this point on, we’re all going to suffer the consequences of reckless monetary policies that inflated this bubble in the first place. Unfortunately, those who are searching for an easy way out of this mess can stop looking because there simply isn’t one. We are heading to a disaster that is going to make 2008 and 2009 look like a Sunday picnic, and its repercussions will shake our nation to the core.

Major West Coast Cities Are Being Overwhelmed By Rats, Drugs, Garbage And Hordes Of Homeless People

America’s major West Coast cities are becoming rotting hellholes that are being completely overwhelmed by rats, addicts, crime, piles of garbage, and hordes of homeless people. The rapid decay of some of the wealthiest cities in the nation is fueling the growth of criminality rates, as well as a dramatic increase in the number of tent cities, and worsening public sanitation problems. These issues are likely to spell a lot of trouble all across the U.S. as we head into another downturn. We're being warned that our societal challenges are set to unleash widespread chaos in the months ahead as economic conditions deteriorate even further and millions more Americans are forced to live on the streets. All across the U.S. West coast, the number of people living on the streets is rising, so is the number of people living in their cars and the number of elderly residents is becoming unhoused. As a result, tent cities are growing at beaches, parks, highway underpasses, lots, and sidewalks. Official data shows that since 2012, the number of homeless people in cities such as Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, and Portland has grown by approximately 75 percent, and with each passing year, the situation only gets worse.
Local reports reveal that in several areas of downtown LA garbage is being left uncollected, which is raising public health concerns after a recent typhus outbreak. The article titled “The collapse of a city that’s lost control” highlights that large swaths of Los Angeles have become wastelands with rats scurrying among piles of decaying garbage and squalid tent cities. “The city of Los Angeles has become a giant trash receptacle,” wrote columnist Steve Lopez.
Offense rates are also soaring in the region. “Everyone living, working in, or visiting downtown has noticed the rapidly deteriorating conditions,” downtown resident Catherine Tomiczek emphasized. She revealed that a friend was beaten and robbed on the street and a neighbor was stabbed in her building. The number of serious delinquencies rose by almost 8 percent since January, official data shows. Needless to say, LA is far from alone.
Further up the California coastline, the homelessness crisis is getting so out of control that the wealthy San Francisco metropolitan area is facing the worst drug epidemic in the history of the United States. Residents say that large portions of the city have been transformed into stomach-churning cesspools of squalor. Since the start of the year, there were nearly 14,000 official complaints about human feces in the streets of San Francisco. The rental site, RentHop, examined public data from the city’s website and found a 311 percent increase in the number of complaints about human and animal waste over the past five years.
Similarly, the notoriously liberal city of Berkeley, California, had to remove over 75 tons of garbage, human waste, and drug paraphernalia from homeless camps in just nine months. The massive pile of garbage was collected between September 2021 and March 2022 by Berkeley's Homeless Response Team, according to the city's 2023 and 2024 prospective budget.
“As California goes, so goes the nation” is a phrase that people like to use, but we must hope that it isn’t true, because California is falling apart at a staggering pace and other major West Coast cities are already following the same path. Meanwhile, household income has flatlined in America, rising 41% from 2000 to 2020, according to Pew Research Data.
Even though China has a much bigger population than the U.S., it has fewer poor people than America. Globally, the World Bank poverty line is an income of $1.90 per day. By 2019, only 0.7% of the Chinese population were at or below the poverty level, meaning that about 9.9 million people lived in poverty out of a population of 1.35 billion. In comparison, in the U.S., 12.3% of the population falls below the national poverty line. That means over 39.7 million Americans are living in poverty.
In the last 15 years, America has lost more than a quarter of its high-tech manufacturing jobs to China as U.S.-based multinational companies placed a growing percentage of their research-and-development operations in the Eastern nation. Over that span alone, the number of high-tech manufacturing jobs in the United States has declined by 687,000, or 28 percent. Meanwhile, U.S. economic growth will slump this year and it will be even slower in 2023, according to a new study from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The OECD estimates that U.S. GDP growth will slow to 2.5 percent in 2022 and fall to just 1.2 percent in 2023. By contrast, the OECD report said China's GDP will grow 4.4 percent this year and 4.9 percent in 2023.

Energy supply shortages are getting worse by the day. The American energy crisis has entered an ominous new chapter. People often say that “energy is the economy,” and in many aspects that statement is true. Large nations with a very high level of economic activity like the United States tend to use a great deal of energy, and as the population continues to expand, so does the demand for more energy supplies. However, production is struggling to keep up with the growing demand, and now we’re being warned that our major energy supply chains, which are responsible for the generation of power, as well as the processing of oil-based products such as diesel and gasoline, and the extraction of natural gas, are reaching a breaking point where it won’t be possible to produce enough energy supplies for everyone. And the consequences of this impending energy supply chain breakdown are going to be catastrophic for our country.
Last month, the national average price of gasoline surpassed $5 a gallon for the first time. Since then prices edged down by a few cents, but remain well above the historic norm. The massive and sudden increase in gas prices that has been weighing on Americans’ budgets is a result of a much deeper problem: the country is facing a huge shortage of refining capacity. Industry executives have said earlier this year that refineries were nearing peak production and that this issue wouldn’t be resolved any time soon.
In total, the U.S. permanently lost 5 facilities and another 14 remain closed for maintenance and other internal issues. The vast majority of open refineries are extremely overwhelmed right now. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), they are already operating above 90% capacity and are expected to run at 95% for the rest of the summer.While Americans mostly noticed the sky-high prices for gasoline, the lesser-known increase in diesel costs is particularly concerning for our economy. In fact, industry executives say that the shortage of diesel and elevated prices could be what drive the U.S. economy into a deep recession.
But that’s not all of it. The other side of the energy supply chain is also facing nightmarish disruptions. A brutal continental heatwave is pushing the price of natural gas to levels never before seen. In the past month alone, natural-gas futures jumped by 48%. This past Wednesday alone, prices surged by 10%, to $8.007 per million British thermal units (btu).
The heat is also testing aging power grids, as consumers turn up their air conditioners and use record amounts of electricity. According to Daniel Turner, the founder, and executive director at Power the Future, the whole country is at risk. "I think the entire country is incredibly vulnerable because the entire country is facing a huge energy shortage and I don’t think there is any place that is truly safe," he said during an interview with Fox News. The blackouts can have disastrous consequences, as seen in the 2021 Texas winter power crisis when millions of people were left without energy and access to basic supplies for weeks.
The truth is that the average American is going to be the hardest hit by these energy supply shortages. If we are at or near peak energy production right now, what will our country look like once we get past the peak and energy production actually starts steadily declining? On the other hand, housing affordability is set to worsen to levels last seen early in the financial crisis as rising mortgage rates compound high prices, a new S&P Global Ratings report has warned. “By the end of this year, mortgage payments will make up 28% of income for the typical first-time buyer -- the highest since the first quarter of 2007 -- assuming a 10% down payment,” S&P North American Chief Economist Beth Ann Bovino said in the report. Mortgages shouldn’t exceed 25% of income to be considered affordable, according to the guidelines of the National Association of Realtors.

America’s supply chain is facing a series of threats. On both coasts, ports are rapidly getting overloaded, and ongoing rail and trucker strikes are likely to exacerbate disruptions and bring back empty shelves at grocery stores. U.S. consumers are already coping with the highest prices in four decades, but industry executives are saying that the nightmarish product shortages and price increases that have been causing lots of stress for millions of American families are here to stay, and those trends are going to continue to accelerate through the end of the year as U.S. ports face another turbulent shipping season.
Last week, one of the most respected supply chain executives came forward to warn the public that America’s supply chain won’t come back to what it was. Before the pandemic, we had probably one of the most efficient supply chains in history. Consumers were able to score those sweet deals from overseas, and grocers were able to keep the shelves stocked for much longer. Disruptions used to come and go. The system was resilient and adaptable. But over the past couple of years, everything has changed. And according to the CEO of FreightWaves, Craig Fuller, that supply chain is never coming back.
In a recent statement, Fuller said that says “the well-running supply chain that many of us took for granted; that gave us an economy of superabundance, is nothing but a memory at this point”. "I think the golden era is probably over," he stressed. And the latest chokepoints are being created by the twin threats of prolonged rail and trucker strikes just as ports on both coasts are starting to get overwhelmed again. For many involved in our domestic supply chains, the ongoing negotiations between dockworker unions and employees on the U.S. West Coast are causing a lot of anxiety and stress. “The supply chain already is in crisis. This is a huge disruption,” added Peter Friedmann, the executive director of the Agriculture Transportation Coalition.The double threat of road and rail strikes during the peak season comes at a critical moment. New data shows that congestion is growing at the country’s top two ports, Los Angeles and Long Beach.
On the other side of the coast, congestion has been brewing for many weeks too. It goes without saying that business owners are freaking out about this situation. A new poll released last week by QIMA found that 95 percent of U.S. companies felt the impact of port congestion in 2022, and at least two-thirds of them expect congestion to continue, or worsen, by the end of 2022. Americans will continue to see products disappearing from grocery shelves at a time of record consumer prices. Another factor aggravating product shortages is the higher cost of energy supplies. In fact, the President of the National Black Farmers Association, John Boyd Jr., noted that soaring gasoline and diesel prices are likely to break the U.S. vulnerable food supply chain.
He explained that “higher diesel prices impact farmers more than the average American as the farming industry relies on diesel for food harvesting and transport,” and reaffirmed that food storages remain a possibility for the coming months. For low and middle-income Americans, these supply chain bottlenecks are extremely concerning. Abusive food prices are regressive and particularly damaging to them.“This is a troubling time for all Americans. The current inflation acts like a tax on all of us, and it is hurting our quality of life,” Bakst stressed.

Ranchers Are Selling Off Their Cattle In Unprecedented Numbers As Global Starvation Plan Accelerates

Thousands of U.S. ranchers are being forced to sell their cattle as grass and water supplies continue to shrink due to extreme weather conditions. A horrific drought is devastating large swathes of the Southwest, leaving ranchers in “panic mode” as they struggle to keep their herds alive. Many of them are rushing to sell all their livestock because they don’t have any other options. The situation is raising major concerns about our domestic meat production, and it’s threatening our ability to feed ourselves in 2023 and beyond.
Local reports describe that North Texas has become the epicenter of this crisis, and thousands of ranchers are being forced to make some really difficult decisions. Thanks to the abnormally dry weather, there isn’t enough grass and water supplies for the herds, and ranchers are selling off cattle by the thousands before conditions get even worse. Typically, when extreme weather starts affecting cattle feed, ranchers usually give them hay instead. But that’s not something they can afford to do anymore. Prices of hay have shot up by 56% over the past year, according to a June report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Cattle producers are estimated to have lost money in the past two months, according to a cost-and-return analysis from Iowa State University. In other words, even if they can find hay for sale it has become so expensive that it is simply not economical.
Bridgeport rancher Jarrod Montford is one of the thousands who've had to sell his cattle due to the high costs to keep them fed. “It’s gonna hurt and it’s gonna hurt bad,” Montford said. “It’s a strain. And sometimes you have to sell some cattle to keep a few." Others are deciding to sell their entire herds because they ran out of options. In central Texas, the supply of hay is so small that many don’t even have alternative ways to keep their cattle alive, and hot temperatures are making ranchers fear that some of the older cattle may not survive until the end of the season.
According to Bloomberg, this means that in the short term a flood of beef will come into the supply chain. But in the long-term, next year’s meat supply will be compromised by a shortage of cattle. One thing most Americans don’t think about very often is where the meat they eat on daily basis actually comes from. And something we never really think about is the fact that a very small number of ranchers are responsible for feeding the entire country. But as the Texas rancher Jarrod Montford has pointed out, we rely upon a very small sliver of the population to feed all the rest of us. “1.6, 1.7% of the population feeds the rest. It’s not how bad are we at the end of the day,” Monfort said. “It’s the fact that if we don’t survive, our nation fails,” Montford emphasizes.
All of this is happening at a time when the UN is warning about the worst global food crisis in decades. Approximately 24 million Americans are already experiencing food insecurity, and famines are starting to erupt all around the globe while food supplies get tighter and tighter with each passing day. For years, people who worked in the food industry have been raising the alarm about this worsening situation and asking our leaders to take action to reverse or mitigate some of these worrying trends before it was too late. But nobody wanted to listen to what they had to say, and now, this is where we are.At this point, if you can stock up on meat before prices go through the roof, we advise you to do so, because meat prices won’t come back to where they are right now for quite some time.

The current global energy crisis is set to become even worse than what the world experienced in the 1970s. All across the globe, consumers are being hit by soaring prices, businesses are facing energy supply shortages, political leaders and central bankers are struggling with inflation, and countries are confronting worsening supply chain problems. In addition to pushing consumer prices to soar, the ongoing crisis is transforming a previously global market into one that is fragmented and extremely vulnerable to disruption.
It is not only hampering economic growth but also deepening the world’s great-power rivalries. And now, populations around the planet are being warned to prepare for fuel and power shortages, rationing, and rolling outages as energy reserves hit dangerously low levels. On top of everything else, due to the geopolitical crisis arising from the conflict in Ukraine, a total cut-off of Russian gas is about to trigger catastrophic consequences for the global market, according to President Vladimir Putin.
In the U.S., on top of shortages of oil-based fuels and natural gas, businesses and consumers are grappling with electricity shortages. Experts say that America’s crumbling power grid is reaching a breaking point as scorching temperatures, low wind output, and record power demand overwhelm the already stressed system. In fact, on Sunday, ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, asked households and businesses to conserve power and warned them to prepare for rolling blackouts. The grid is facing a "reserve capacity shortage with no market solution available," ERCOT said in a press release.
The power shock in Texas is likely to result in higher crude prices because oil/gas industries will end up being forced to shutter operations during blackouts. The latest projections showed that wind generation is at only 8% of the grid’s total capacity, and the high temperatures mean no relief in sight. To make things worse, another natural gas plant caught fire this weekend – the fifth incident since the start of the year. At the same time, the outlook isn’t any more promising in U.S. oil markets. Over the past year, the U.S. strategic petroleum reserve has been drained and is now sitting at dangerously low levels.
Despite the repeated warnings that the country is set to face a shortage of fuels, more than 5 million barrels from the strategic reserve were exported to Europe and Asia last month, including to top our geopolitical nemesis in the global arena, China, even as gasoline and diesel prices continue to hit record highs all across the nation. “The situation is more than dramatic,” highlighted Axel Gedaschko, the head of GdW. “Social peace is in great danger,” he stressed.
"Let's prepare for a total cut-off of Russian gas; Today that is the most likely option," Le Maire warned. "We have to anticipate and to put ourselves in order of battle as of now," he emphasized. A potential domino effect from a Russian supply cut-off means that the entire planet could face repercussions as the global market loses one of its major suppliers, La Maire explained.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin sees catastrophic energy consequences as sanctions against his country continue. For Americans, tighter energy supplies mean that they will spend 70% on energy this year, according to the calculations of Tim Morstad, the associate state director for AARP.
