Be Ready For Evictions As 50% Of American Workers Can’t Afford Rent Prices

Nearly half of all American workers can’t afford rent prices in most U.S. cities, according to a new report. They are at risk of becoming homeless this year as a nightmarish scenario unfolds in the rental market, analysts say. Evictions are spiking again, and in some states, eviction fillings have already soared 40% above pre-pandemic levels. Conditions are tight, with less than 5% of rental units still vacant across the country. As competition amongst renters grows, prices continue rising much faster than incomes at a time job cuts are also increasing. The combination is painting a dire picture for housing affordability, and it is threatening to disrupt the lives of millions of Americans.
A new report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition showed that nearly half of Americans – or about 46% – do not earn enough to rent a one-bedroom apartment. Rents in the U.S. continued to rise in recent years as demand increased due to expensive home prices, and a worker now needs to earn about $21.40 an hour to afford a modest one-bedroom rental. The median wage in the US is about $21 an hour.
And this trend is not just happening in big cities. The report reveals that a two-bedroom rental – a reasonable size for a family – would stretch the budgets of renters in the vast majority of U.S. counties. In California, where the minimum wage is $14 an hour, the cost of housing is so high that the benefit of higher hourly pay is completely erased. Today, a person in California needs to earn $39.03 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment and $31.06 for a one-bedroom. That is to say, a minimum-wage worker in the state would have to put in 89 hours every week just to afford the one-bedroom and 112 hours to afford the two-bedroom.
Nationally, the average fair market rent is $1,718 a month for a one-bedroom and $1,956 a month for a two-bedroom, according to the report. In contrast, the average renter’s hourly wage is $18.78, an income that can absorb only $977 a month in rent without being housing cost-burdened. A household living on one minimum wage income can afford even less, $377 a month, the organization showed.
Meanwhile, a nightmarish scenario for evictions is unfolding in the U.S. rental market. A recent GOBankingRates survey found that roughly one-third of Americans, or 32.56%, are worried they won’t be able to pay for rent over the next three months as they face a job loss.
The ripple effects that mass evictions can have on our society are beyond scary. The human toll of losing one's home, community, and sense of security cannot be underestimated. As more and more people are pushed out of their homes and into homelessness, the fabric of our society will start to desintegrate.
In short, the housing crisis is a moral and political crisis, and we cannot afford to ignore the plight of those who are being left behind by our broken housing system. In the end, we must recognize that the problem of mass evictions and soaring rent prices is not a mere economic issue, but a human one. And our country's failure to act now will have dire consequences for generations to come.

The Federal Reserve has made a huge mistake and the stock market will suffer the worst consequences. The volatily we've been witnessing in the past few days marks the beggining of the end. This bear market rally is rapidly fizzling out, and even Morgan Stanley is now sounding the alarm over a breath-taking stock market crash that will change the game for decades.
Powell and his associates are desperately trying to clean up the mess they made both in the economy and financial markets. They’re trying to control raging inflation by depressing consumer demand, but that is hurting millions of Americans and driving businesses to a breaking point.
The last CPI report was a complete and total disaster, with inflation only declining by 0.01% and actually climbing year-over-year. So how are they going to reverse this? The answer is simple: The Fed’s plan is to keep squeezing businesses until they start bleeding more jobs. For them, these are just plain statistics. But for the U.S. industry, American workers, as well as the stock market, higher unemployment will be catastrophic.
The impending death of this bear market rally is going to change the game for good. According to CME’s Fed watch tool, which is based on the Fed funds future used by traders to place their bets in the Fed’s policy rate, there’s a 74% chance the central bank will be forced to raise rates above 5.25%, and there’s a 48% chance by June, interest rates hit 5.5%, which was actually an unthinkable rate just about a month ago.
In order words, policymakers will ultimately have to start raising rates at a 0.5% basis again. And as soon as it happens, the circuit breakers will be triggered and stocks will fall off a cliff. Those who think that the February CPI report will present better news are set for some bitter disappointment. With the Production Price Index going up by 6% in February, we have yet another setback in the battle against inflation. To make things worse, corporate profits and margins are already signaling trouble. 82% of the companies in the S&P 500 have already reported their Q4 earnings, and their profits have declined on average by 4.7%, meaning the market is losing a major catalyst for stock price growth.
A stock market bottom doesn’t look so far away, and giants in the financial world seem to agree with that. On Monday, Morgan Stanley warned that a double-digit loss is coming for the next stage of the stock market crash. In a note to clients, the bank’s chief equity said that “investors are behaving similarly to climbers who blindly push on towards the top of Mount Everest without properly considering the risks.”
"The bear market rally that began in October from reasonable prices and low expectations has morphed into a speculative frenzy based on a Fed pause/pivot that isn't coming," the executive added. He argues that the S&P is about to bottom out, falling to 3,000 points – or 26% below the 4,080 points it traded at as of Friday's closing bell.
All is going as the Fed has planned: businesses are underperforming, unemployment is going up, and consumers can’t consume due to the soaring cost of daily necessities. Well, everything – except inflation. Is it really their goal to bring inflation down or to destroy all the things that hold this country together? We guess we will learn the answer to this question the hard way. So run for the exits while you still can!

Commercial Real Estate Collapse Trigger 80% Loss In Property Value

A cataclysmic commercial real estate collapse is happening in plain sight and no one seems to be talking about it. We’ve just recorded the biggest month-over-month property value drop since the global financial crisis. The sector is facing an increasingly dire situation fueled by weakening demand, record storefront vacancies, a shift to remote working, and souring credit conditions. Experts say that the slump in the world’s biggest asset class has spread from the housing market to commercial real estate, and now a flood of distressed loans can result in an 84% value destruction and unleash serious turmoil all across the U.S. economy.
A recent study by NYU scholars is using the word “apocalyptic” to describe the crisis that is now unfolding before our eyes. By analyzing data provided by research firm Green Street, commercial property prices have already dropped by 13% in 2023, the largest monthly decline since it began tracking this data in 2007, in the run-up to the global financial crisis. NYU professor Arpit Gupta and his team point to a looming “commercial real estate apocalypse,” with office prices declining 84% in less than five years. Since 2020, commercial property values have fallen by 45%, and according to their projections, another 39% collapse is going to take place by 2025. That represents a “$453 billion value destruction”.
Moody’s Analytics documented that Securities backed by commercial mortgages saw “a huge spike in elevated delinquency rates” in the past quarter. “What we have in this downturn is a fairly unique set of economic circumstances. Interest rates are tightening instead of softening the blow for real estate and other corporates,” said Ian Guthrie, a senior managing director at the loan advisory team at Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., a real estate broker. The Federal Reserve has already hiked interest rates seven times, and it’s not finished yet, which means that the environment for borrowers and lenders is expected to deteriorate even further as the months go by.
Right now, one of the biggest risks in commercial real estate is older and less desirable office and retail space. New reports indicate that private equity investors are walking away from the sector due to rising uncertainty about the future of commercial properties amid raging inflation and construction and financing costs during the recession.
Almost $175 billion of real estate credit is already distressed, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. At the moment, about one in 10 corporate loans in the U.S. is already underperforming and showing increased credit risk, Bank of America reported. The combined meltdown of both commercial and residential real estate is unprecedented in all of U.S. history. The amount of wealth that can be wiped out from the system can reach the trillions before this is all over.
We are in for a very rough ride, and we have very limited alternatives. The resilience of U.S. businesses and consumers is at stake, and while thousands upon thousands of companies can disappear in that process, Americans can lose everything they have ever fought for. This is not just a housing and commercial real estate collapse. This is a reflection of a broken economy and a decaying society. While the sector’s apocalypse looms over us, now more than ever, we need to keep one eye on the danger.
